"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."
Hebrews 13:8
In life, change is inevitable.
Our desires change, circumstances change, our jobs change, our friends change, our needs change, our minds change, our bodies change. Most life changes are not in our control, despite what we may think.
I have always struggled with change. There’s something extremely difficult about relearning how to take care of yourself and figuring out what’s best for you all over again.
And again. And again.
Not easy.
Then once you do that, you get to learn to accept and love yourself for who you are now. You have to leave the old version of you behind and open the door for the new one. That means letting go of the past and embracing the uncertainty of the future. Despite how much you may want to go back, you can't and you won't. That's the way change works.
Again, not easy.
I spent most of my life searching for a way out of this continuous cycle I found myself in. In other words, I tried to find a foolproof way to make the ups and downs of life painless.
Spoiler alert: I never found one. There was nothing that I could do to make the waves of change rock me any less. But, I did find a way to ride the waves instead of letting them destroy me and knock me down one after another.
I found something that never changes.
I found a firm foundation to step on when the ground beneath me feels like it’s breaking.
I found a strength beyond my own to lean on when chaos inevitably surrounds me.
The one and only thing that I found to never change in this life- is God’s love.
Once I found God and His Word, the circumstances of life that seem to never stop changing became much less painful and anxiety-provoking.
Knowing that He is right by my side in all circumstances allows me to persevere in all that stands before me.
Because of His love for us, He promises he will never leave or forsake us, especially in the trials of change.
”Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.”
Deuteronomy 31:8
Hold onto this truth when you find yourself afraid or discouraged, and all of the other feelings in between.
